Property Location
Rotonda is a unique circular development built around golf courses and waterways in the Englewood area of Charlotte County. You soon discover a part of Florida that is off the beaten path - unhurried, unspoiled and uncrowded. This region is often called the “gem of the sun coast”, and you will soon see why.
On the beautiful Gulf of Mexico in southwest Florida, Rotonda/Englewood is located mid-way between Tampa and Fort Myers. Wildlife is abundant: Rotonda is a bird sanctuary, where you can expect to spot many varieties. Its many miles of waterways - including the waterway that runs along the bottom of the garden – include otters, turtles and a variety of fish. You might even spot nocturnal residents such as raccoons, armadillos and bobcats. Most mornings, a great grey heron relaxes on our fishing dock, hence the name “Heron’s Rest”. From our own dock we have seen alligators, turtles, otters and many kinds of birds.

Area Information, Attractions & Distances
Things to Do:
Rotonda is a Golfers’ paradise! There are no less than six local golf courses, including four operated by Rotonda Golf and Country Club. For non-golfers, there is freshwater or deep-sea fishing with some of the best fishing in the world at nearby Charlotte Harbour. Other water sports, including boat hire, Jet Ski, kayak’s take you out into the Gulf. Air boat rides.
Wildlife:
Bring your binoculars! As you will see (depending on season) from our own deck, every kind of bird, alligators, otters, turtles and so on.
A photographers paradise! It really is a pleasure just to watch the wildlife in your own back yard.
Beaches:
There are several gorgeous, white beaches within a ten- to fifteen-minute drive. Quiet and remote, they attract lots of bird life, dolphins, turtles and other wildlife. There are no big crowds, just plenty of white sand with wonderful shells being lapped by gentle waves. You must stay on to see one of the stunning sunsets.
It is peaceful here, but, if you fancy visiting somewhere designed for higher-energy thrills, there are plenty of tourist attractions nearby. Rotonda is an “away from it all” location, yet is the perfect base for trips to the larger tourist resorts of Fort Myers, Tampa, Miami, Sarasota or Venice.
The wider surrounding area of Charlotte Harbour and the Gulf Islands is a collection of nine charming coastal communities.
It is an area known for its expansive, unspoiled beauty.
Theme Parks and Attractions:
Orlando and the Disney/Universal/Sea world theme parks are about a 2.5 hour drive. It can be a long day trip, but a stopover at a budget motel means a two- to three-day visit is within easy reach and the journey is very straightforward.
A closer attraction is Busch Gardens, Tampa - a fantastic theme park offering thrilling rides as well as one of the country's premier zoos.It has something for all ages. Being just two hours’ journey away, Busch Gardens is a fun day trip.
Miami, with its famous South Beach, is a three-hour drive away.
The Everglades, where you can experience air boat rides and see alligators, are within easy reach.
F.A.Q:
How do I know which villa to choose?
What are the pitfalls I should look out for?
1. Why do Villa’s that look very similar vary in price?
When we first rented in Rotonda we tended to look for the cheaper option.
We got a nice villa overlooking grass waste land! It was north facing so we chased the sun round the pool! And it disappeared from the deck by 2pm!
There’s a reason why it’s cheap.
A visit is to Florida is a big overall cost. So why compromise on such a trip?
You invariably get what you pay for in most cases.
You will no doubt spend time laying out in the sun and enjoying the pool.
So how big is the pool? And perhaps more importantly for us oldies, what will you be looking out on?
2. The best villas will get booked early.
Book as early and as soon as you can.
Hesitating for too long can mean you lose your first choice.
You may be taking your time, as one would want to, enquiring and looking at options, but if you find the one, don’t hesitate, book it.
I have had many people “dither and hesitate” only to have to turn them away, as someone has come in and booked on line while they ‘took their time’. Remember there are many others looking too and with the internet a booking is a click away.
3. A villa on the waterway has to be the best choice.
I mentioned outlook earlier.
As you sunbathe what will make the difference?
How about:
Gazing over the waterway.
Watching the water……Whose on Alligator watch?
Heron’s arriving, bird’s feeding.
Birds of prey……swooping across the surface, fish at their mercy.
Watch the local wildfire at play.
When you rise in the morning.
Would you like to drink your coffee while watching the sunrise?
Early evening as the sun sets, glass of wine in hand.
The sun sets are breathing taking at times. But not seen at all villas!
4. Check what’s included in the price too, any extras?
Our price is clear and all in.
No added taxes or hire charges.
5. What if there is a problem with the villa?
Ours will be clean and ready for your stay with a local team to ensure any problems you have will be seen to and dealt with. They want to ensure your vacation runs smoothly and hassle free.
